Music

The title of this work takes its name from the legendary forest in the tales of King Arthur where the wizard Merlin is buried, an image that conveys a sense of wonder, mystery, and, of course, magic. I sought to evoke each of these in my first work for wind ensemble.

Composed using only Connie Francis’ “Tennessee Waltz,” I sought to explore the beauty of the original as well as the extremes of what was possible through electronic manipulation of small and large samples of the source material.

This track was composed for the video game Trace Your Roots during the 97th World Game Jam. The week’s theme was “strange garden.” A sparse percussion ensemble accompanies this one-on-one puzzle game

This exploration cue was scored for a game in which a mythical African bird soars above the clouds. It was submitted to the 2019 G.A.N.G. Demo Derby at the Game Developers Conference.

Named after the martial arts form Bassai, Okinawan for “Storming the Fortress,” this multi-percussion solo contains heavy symbolism. Instrument choices, rhythms, and accents all reflect the complex patterns the form uses, and the intensity it conveys is that of a single warrior storming a fortress.

Based on a harp theme by Turlough O’Carolan, the vibraphone and marimba in Dream Variations explore mysterious and exciting variations on the original rhythms and tonality.

This piece for electronics was composed in FL Studio and uses techniques such as rhythmic phasing, reverb, and dramatic panning to convey the different perceptions of time we have based on our perspective. It takes it name from the letter written by Stoic philosopher Seneca.

This track was composed for the game Bumpergrove during the 97th World Game Jam. The week’s theme was “strange garden.” The electronic and melodic percussion sounds hint at the game’s setting: an old, yet advanced civilization that is overgrown with forest life.

This track was composed for the video game Shade Garden created for the 97th World Game Jam. The week’s theme was “strange garden.” A large percussion ensemble and pan flute create the mood for a young adventurer’s journey through a dark and mysterious garden.

This cue was composed for a 2019 Global Game Jam project entitled Free Time. The game was created by Collin Ryan and Sofia Eichelmann, and can be found at: globalgamejam.org/2019/games/free-time

Majesty is a soaring and relentless work for solo horn and piano accompaniment which uses a wide range of musical material that constantly transforms. It was inspired by the many diverse and breathtaking landscapes that can be found across the world, and which reflect the glory of God.

Written for Mallory Vinzant, this duet for alto saxophone and marimba was inspired by the joys and challenges of being engaged while living hundreds of miles apart.

The short film Manic was directed by Jack Evans, and chronicles the difficult relationship between a young man battling mental illness and his brother learning to understand and support him. This excerpt uses two different guitar sounds which capture the brother’s conflicting feelings.

This cue is the background for the main playing level of the game Top Wings, created for the 2019 Global Game Jam. It was designed by William Pope, Kyle Adams, and John Ledesma.
